Late Mushrooms

We are going in search of late boletes tomorrow in the San Mateos, But so far this season all we have is this lonely clutch of lobsters from the White Mountains of Arizona from Simon Armijo. These delicious parasites are more consistent from year to year because they are only found above 10,000 feet, and our ten- thousand plus peaks, though we can see one from our south windows, do not have enough area..

  1. This has been an odd mushroom year for us. There was good rain in late August, but the boletes did not show up in their usual spots, although hawk's wings did. Yet we are finding buckets of shaggy parasols here at home where we never saw them before! So that is the consolation prize, it seems.

  2. Steve, nice haul of Lobstuhs… Hermine left a lot of destruction in her path, but the torrential rains may have jumpstarted the chants in my usual haunts here in the lowcountry. I will know more in couple of hours. Hopefully the woods roads aren't blocked by tree falls…Gil
