It’s a MARMOT

There has been quite a bit of discussion in my crowd as to what the Bald Eagle in this photo is carrying, with guesses ranging from a cat to a  prairie dog (the last group obviously hasn’t seen an eagle up close!)

Keith Brady, who knows the photographer, solved the problem: it is a yellow- bellied marmot: photo by Ken Risi.

  1. Ahhhhh. reminds me of the delicious, tangy "woodchuck mcnuggets" I used to fry up, cut from the haunches of groundhogs my first wolf-hybrid used to kill(with great regularity and ease) and FETCH to me. I learned many years ago,(contradicting the notions of some doggy domestication "theorists" that postulate it couldn't be done), that wolves or dogs with recent wolf ancestry(that you have a good relationship with), will MOST ASSUREDLY assist and share in hunting with their human partners! The DIFFICULTY involved with such, I found,in these modern times, ISN'T in getting yer wolf-dogs to hunt, but trying to PREVENT them from hunting EVERYTHING! Especially yer neighbor's livestock and pets! There is a new movie coming out(I CAN'T WAIT!) about this early wolf/human relationship titled "Alpha"–check out the trailer on Youtube!…..L. B.
