There are Roseate Terns here and there worldwide, but in Canada the absolute best place to see them is in my home village of West Pubnico-specifically Dennis Point wharf where you can see them point blank as they dip and dive for fish. The colony on North Brother is doing very well, with 72 recorded nests this year. This is the highest number since the early 80’s so good news there. June 30th. Ronnie d’Entremont
A beautiful image of a tern. I can’t remember the last time I saw a tern. Before I was 8, we spent time at the beach and I used to see terns there. I still have an impression of how awestruck I was by them. Images pop into my mind unbidden when I think of terns or the beach. Am I really remembering them from that time or is it a trick of the mind? In any case, I have always loved terns. The way they fly, hunt and behave is so tied to the sea for me. Strangely with all the time I spent on the coast in Massachusetts, I have no memory of them there.
