I have always thought of Chipper Thompson as a musician—which he is , a fine one:

But we first met him at the Gerald Peters gallery art shows with our old gang of painters and sculptors—Tony Angell, Stevel Kestrel, Tom Quinn, and many others, in the days when there was money and director Maria Hajic threw a threw a hell of a grand party several times a year for all her artists and writers.Then, Chip was known as a musician, a good one, from Taos. He was also the widower of the wonderful impressionist landscape painter Lanford Monroe. He also owned REALLY old fashioned guns, like matchlocks , which he actually shot.

Now I am delighted to report that Chip has a show at the Gerald Peters in Santa Fe, of his art, an unusual hybrid of natural history and southwestern motifs. Here are some images of his work.
