I saw the images above and they were a flash back to being a kid.

They were in this book which I nearly wore out. I was surprised by his name however. I expected someone I was familiar with but he didn’t ring any bells.

The iconic bear fight scene was also with the three. This is the best image I could find of it. Stuff like this makes an impression on a kid.
The great cave bear, (Ursus spelaeus) of Pleistocene Eurasia became extinct during the Last Glacial Maximum about 24,000 years ago. It has long been a favorite topic of paleoartists, from Charles R. Knight to Mark Hallett and others. Most often, it has been depicted in dramatic conflict with prehistoric man. It was even depicted in cave paintings by Cro-Magnon artists. Here are some reconstructions by the great Zdenek Burian, some very well-known, others (hopefully) not so much. Gregory VanWyngarden
Artists must love to do those scenes because you see a lot of them. Examples above.

The winner, however, is this one.
The good old days?
There is speculation that some of these bear fights were real. The great cave bear, (Ursus spelaeus), and humans both wanted the same caves.
As usual, open in new tabs to embiggen. Twice for small ones.
