While searching San Esteban Rockshelter at Big Bend National Park in southwest Texas, archaeologists came across a 6,000-year-old hunting kit that may be the oldest intact weapon set ever discovered in North America. The cache included part of a spear-throwing tool known as an atlatl, 10 shafts that connected stone points to the weapon, and the ends of four darts. Researchers also uncovered a straight-flying boomerang that ancient hunters would have used to kill or incapacitate small game. What’s more, archaeologists found a tanned pronghorn hide that still contained hair neatly folded atop a rock beside the kit as if whoever left it there “had every intention in the world of coming back.” Learn more about this rare insight into ancient life in the region: https://inter.st/tomm
