I love the chaotic jumble. I am reminded of the ice after the tide is out here.
Captured on Sunday, January 5, 2025, at 2:50 PM, this film showcases an extraordinary natural event on the River Sjoa in Heidal. With temperatures plunging between 20 and 30 degrees below zero, the conditions were set for a remarkable phenomenon. While ice formation on this river isn’t unusual—occurring several times each winter—this particular event was much more powerful and expansive than normal. The spectacle unfolds when the bottom of the river freezes, causing the water masses to dam up. Eventually, the immense pressure forces the ice to break loose, which in this instance happened about 20 kilometers upstream. The result is a dramatic surge of ice and water rushing downstream, all captured brilliantly in this footage. This rare occurrence highlights the raw power of nature in extreme conditions, offering a captivating glimpse into the dynamic forces at play in frozen landscapes.
Ice dam breaks and it is dramatic. There are a lot of ice jams here but I don’t rememeber hearing of any like that.
