A Dog

A new dog, with the unfortunate name of “Scarlett”.  She is a pretty 5 year old longhaired Dachshund, our second favorite type  after longdogs. She has some ideas which is good— I don’t trust a dog with no opinions, And the most startling and hideous  voice  I have ever heard- a sort of strangled screech. Thank God, she is not yappy.

She looks like a chopped and channeled tazi…

At this point I had added a photo of a dog someone had sent that rather reminded me of our dog. Apparently I had implied  they were close relatives, or the same , or ? At any rate the dogs are NOT related, and  I will strive to take a picture of  her as soon as I  get a camera working

BTW “Scarlett” is a bad name because it can’t be bellowed; try it.

Not good for the field…

  1. You’re right, “SCARLETT!” just doesn’t work.

One of my old hawking mentors from Georgia favoured monosyllabic names for this reason. When I met him, he was flying a passage redtail named “Kit”. She almost became “Six”, he told me, but he didn’t want to run the risk of being misunderstood while wandering the woods of suburban Augusta.

  2. Hi Steve and Libby,

I hope Scarlett works out for you, and glad you finally got another dachshund The stud dog pictured has sired a number of good working miniatures, so Scarlett should come around with plenty of field time
