Chipper Thompson

I have always thought of Chipper Thompson as a musician—which he is , a  fine one:

But we first met him at the  Gerald Peters gallery  art shows with our old gang of painters and sculptors—Tony Angell, Stevel Kestrel,  Tom Quinn, and many others,  in the days when there was money and director Maria Hajic threw a threw a hell of a grand party several times a year  for all her artists and writers. Then, Chip was known as a musician, a good one, from Taos. He was also  the widower of the wonderful  impressionist landscape painter Lanford Monroe. He also  owned REALLY  old fashioned guns, like matchlocks , which he actually shot.

Here are a couple of Lanford’s paintings:

Now I am delighted to report that Chip  has a show at the Gerald  Peters in Santa Fe, of his art, an unusual hybrid of natural history and southwestern motifs. Here are some images  of his work.

If you are in Santa Fe, drop in and see it ..
