Bizarre Rock Formation

 

The formation is about 30’ long and the spikes are from 6”-14”. The spikes are the same material as the ground they stand in (red sandstone).
Also, notice that the spikes seem to appear in rows and are flattened along the axis of the row.
When we first ran across this I sent pictures to the US Geologic Survey in Salt Lake. They didn’t know what it was but their best guess was that it was a de-watering feature from an ancient earthquake across a wet, sandy plain. Grant Kimball

I have never seen anything like it. The world continues to surprise.
Sort of like mini Hoodoos.
