Birds and Fireworks

NL: Monitoring the reaction of birds to fireworks

Birds flee en mass from fireworks on New Year’s Eve
The video below shows weather radar measurements from two Dutch radars during New Year’s Eve. In the area enclosed between red arcs, 384,000 birds immediately respond to the lighting of fireworks just after midnight. These birds fly up to 500 meters in altitude, much higher than normally.
In a densely populated country like the Netherlands, it is safe to say ALMOST ALL birds are affected by fireworks, with the majority of birds being less than 2.5km (1.5 mile) away from fireworks.
I didn’t know the problem was this bad.
Also, this.
