I keep reviewing this flight, and am glad I got it on video, he does catch it as it makes ground, it was a covey rise but god damn I appreciate scaled quail. That scalie which was an adult pulled a prairie chicken move, it set its wings let the hawk close in, and turned on the afterburners at the last second with a slight roll. I’ve seen thousands of scaled quail flown by goshawks and they still show me new moves. Tyler Sladen
I found this comment interesting. Apparently, scaled quail are a superb hawking quarry. I don’t see the video off Meta but he has a few on Youtube.
His profile says he is from Brockton, MA next to where Steve grew up. He is in Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, New Mexico now. If Steve doesn’t know him, it is likely he knows of Steve. Falconry is a small world.
