“The Warning Shadow” by William Robinson Leigh

A painting by Arthur Wardle. You never know what’s lurking in the shadows. Wishing you a spooky, safe, and happy Halloween from all of us at the National Museum of Wildlife Art!
Arthur Wardle (United Kingdom, 1864 – 1949), Silent Watchers, 1928. Oil on canvas. 34 × 50 inches. JKM Collection®, National Museum of Wildlife Art.
No argument from me. Kuhn has been a favorite since I was 10.

Grizzly Bear Hunting

The painting depicts Bob Kuhn on a big game hunt alongside the consignor’s grandfather, who served as the artist’s hunting guide. The hunt is recounted in Kuhn’s story “Frosting on the Cake,” written and illustrated by the artist and published in the June 1967 issue of Outdoor Life.

This appeared in Lilliput – a British magazine, published in December 1954. There are images for “The Temple Tiger” by Jim Corbett on pages 72-73, 76, 79, and 82. I’ll see if I upload them to my Raymond Sheppard site soon.
I have not seen these Sheppard’s before. They really add to Corbett’s work.
Raymond Sheppard, Wardle, Kuhn are among the greats.
