Dirty Jobs

MSN Careers has an interesting piece up on the 10 Dirtiest Jobs in Science. In no particular order they are:

Manure Inspector
Orangutan Pee Collector
Hot-zone Superintendent
Extremophile Excavator
Dysentery Stool Sample Analyzer
Semen Washer
Volcanologist
Carcass Cleaner
Fistula Feeder
Corpse-Flower Grower

I would say Hot-zone Superintendent is maybe the most dangerous, but for dirtiest, I vote Carcass Cleaner. What is your vote?

  1. Fistula Feeder (I assume this is not a human’s job, but still).

    That one has my vote.

I’ve cleaned many a carcass myself without the slightest nausea. I intend to clean several more over Thanksgiving dinner next week! 🙂

  2. I’m prejudiced toward carcass cleaner because I shared grad school offices with a guy who was always bringing in not so fresh road-kill that he tried to clean up for his faunal collection. That badger he brought in stunk up the place for a week!
