I love that line by McGuane, but I always feel a bit uncomfortable with it. Perhaps Tom would accept a slight edit…

Those of us addicted to bird dogs may wonder how you could fail to have as many as you can.
If I only had the balls to ruin my life for sport. As it is, I feel like a sandpiper running right to the edge of the water, then beating a hasty retreat.
Mmmmmm. Lives in wine country and hunts in Montana. That sounds pretty nice, too. (Though, yeah, that pup is ADORABLE.)
