  1. This reminds me of when I worked on the Biltmore Estate in Asheville. N.C.(most people in the servant/working class in and around Asheville eventually end up doing time at the Biltmore Estate! I lasted a whole 9 months before I got canned–when I was fired, I was told in a very haughty tone, that I was NOT "Biltmore material"-my reply was, "Dang, it took you guys 9 months to figger that out? I knew that in a week!")–anyway, it IS a neato place(despite poor treatment of employees) built at the turn of the (old fart) century(1900), with an amazing collection of all sorts of fancy gew-gaws. In the indoor swimming pool, they had installed some of EDISON's ORIGINAL electric bulbs to light the area–THEY WERE STILL BURNING in 1985, when I was there(briefly)–in fact, they NEVER turned them off, afraid that being so old, they wouldn't come back on! They may still be burning, as far as I know. I guess to make a proper go at a business, Edison needed to come up with a "less durable" product! Real truth in the geezer statement, "they don't make 'em like they used tah!"…..L.B.
