Saw Whets are Sweeties

Saw Whet Owls

I was coming home about an hour after dark when something whitish flashed up and hit the side of the car. I almost didn’t go back but it looked odd to me and I was curious. Going back I could see a small object in the middle of the lane that looked dead. Walking up it was a live saw whet owl. It would be killed so I tried to get it off the road. It flapped a few feet into the ditch. I finally caught it after a few misses and it was very calm except for some distress sounds. I had the hazard lights on and a guy stopped to see if I was ok. I showed him the owl and he kindly gave me a box for it. By luck, a friend was nearby that had kept raptors before. He said it would be alright in the box overnight. His partner called the animal rehab place near me and I will take it in Wed. It may not be hurt but it needs to be checked.

To say this guy is cute is an understatement. I had never seen one before even though they are supposed to be common. I tried to get a pic but the light was not good. Maybe I can when I deliver him\her.
