Lit for Foodies

THE 12 MOST UNFORGETTABLE DESCRIPTIONS OF FOOD IN LITERATURE

I saw this this morning and almost passed over it. I am not the foodie that Steve is but I was curious. It was an odd selection of things I didn’t expect but what really caught my eye was the Revenge of the Lawn choice by Richard Brautigan. I didn’t think anyone remembered him. I have seen him mentioned a lot since the 60’s, especially for his Trout Fishing in America. I have handled it but have never read it. It is not about trout fishing. I have never heard of his other works like the one in the article. My impression of him was as an anti-cultural hero from the 60’s mainly of interest to those who lived through it.

A search here shows some references Steve made to him. I also remembered that he was in Steve’s Book of Books somewhere. A check showed him mentioned and listed under the Russell Chatham, Dark Waters, review.

Steve being a foodie and lit guy likely can get more out of the article than I can. I will say if the article was about food in print why not include Jim Harrison, J. R.R. Martin, or even Bourdain.

Meanwhile, my approach to food is above. LOL

Bonus video. A reading of Brautigan’s, The Beautiful Poem, by Matthew McConaughey.  Ahh.., the 60’s. They are missed. LOL
