  • Story Behind This Painting: The Sandhill Crane Festival in Monte Vista Colorado occurs every March as the Sandhill Cranes are migrating through to the North. The Cranes have a prehistoric sound and when they gather in the thousands it is amazing to hear. As the birds were gathering food one morning in a field something would spook them and it was a spectacle to see around 10,000 birds take off all together. This painting shows the variety of stages of their flight in this mass exodus.

Not a bad picture of sandhills with a few geese in the mix. They are spreading east and a few are on the east coast.
