In the 1980s, McCarthy considered secretly reintroducing wolves into southern Arizona.
I did not know that. Does this have any connection to Steve writing about the same thing?
I heard last night that one of the great ones has passed. Mention has been made of him before here. I don’t know if he and Steve had any relationship. They were in the same state but that means little.
I read at least one of his books and saw a movie or two based on them but I was not an expert. I do remember Harold Bloom, the noted literature critic, making a big deal out of him and, especially, Blood Meridian.*
The Official Web Site of the Cormac McCarthy Society Notice
Socially, McCarthy had an aversion to other writers, preferring the company of scientists. He voiced his admiration for scientific advances: “What physicists did in the 20th century was one of the extraordinary flowerings ever in the human enterprise.”[21] At MacArthur reunions, McCarthy shunned his fellow writers to fraternize instead with scientists like physicist Murray Gell-Mann and whale biologist Roger Payne. Of all of his interests, McCarthy stated, “Writing is way, way down at the bottom of the list.”[28] per wiki
I heard on the radio Payne died on the 10th. Odd timing.
