Crested Caracara

The Crested Caracara has survived the long cold winter on Prince Edward Island.
This photo was taken on March 4 in the Southern Kings County area!
Again I am respecting the wishes of the property owners and will keep the exact location confidential.
The Caracara has visited this property daily since January and I can assure you these people have helped it survive by feeding it some good quality high protein food. They have had a very unique experience with this rare bird and deserve praise for their efforts.
I believe because the Caracara has been eating well and has been left virtually undisturbed it was able to make it through the winter.
It has been out hunting in adjacent fields this week, which is a great sign of health and robustness. It probably will continue to wander areas of PEI as springtime weather arrives.
Such an amazing story about this rare bird who calls Central and South America home!
BTW…the property owners have given the Crested Caracara a name…..” Carrie “…very appropriate! Dale Murchison Bird Photography
A long way from home.
