My niece texted me yesterday afternoon. It is a fawn and l am surprised it is in this patch of weeds about 5 feet across at the backdoor. I have a tree planted there hence the flags.
I came home at 745 pm and it was still there. The doe will likely be back after dark. It is a long way from deer cover. The doe may have done that deliberately. I hope she is not dead since they cross the street to get here all the time. Coons and other night predators would put it at risk. I put a camera on the patch.
The doe showed up 20 min after the 855 sunset. That timing sounds right. The video pointed into the light. I could see the doe but not the fawn.
There was a fawn by the fence in 2018 a fox attacked. I had to chase the fox away.
This may not be a big deal in most places but here where deer are scarce it was impossible to believe until 10 years ago.
I was cutting weeds behind the barn and the fawn ran around behind me back towards the house. I felt really bad to spook it like that. It ducked into a clump of weeds before the end of the barn. I put a camera up.
