South Africa between 265 and 260 million years ago during the Permian period. An Anteosaurus snarls menacingly at a trio of hungry pristerognathoids approaching the remains of a Keratocephalus that it has been dining on. Anteosaurus was the biggest known land carnivore of the Permian, measuring an estimated 5-6 metres long and weighing around 600 kg. Its massive skull has led some to dub it the Tyrannosaurus rex of its time. Artwork by Emiliano Troco
Like something out of a comic book. I wonder how much inspiration past life was for the comic books. Likely a lot. The pic’s accuracy is debatable.
