John was one of my favorite fishing writers. He had a skill that was deceptive. He made it look easy when it wasn’t. No less than Tom McGuane said so, I think. John’s writing will be remembered for a long time. He was in the the same league as greats like Haig-Brown, etc. I was eagerly waiting for his next book but was aware it might not happen and now it will not.
I wrote him once recommending he go to the Nipigon for the huge brook trout there. I can’t remember exactly what he said but it was something like since he was an old hand at Labrador he wanted to stick with it. Brook Trout were his favorite fish. Mine, too.
Beloved author John Gierach passes away at 78.
John and Steve knew each other but I am not sure if they ever met.
I emailed Steve the news and he replied above. He is still looking for assistance with typing. Anyone know of workable dictation software, etc?
