The Fallen Rock in Wyoming’s Bighorn Canyon is notable for its striking, almost geometric shape. This massive block, with its flat, rectangular surfaces and sharp edges, stands out dramatically against the rugged canyon landscape.
It is believed that natural weathering and erosion contributed to its unusual, angular form, creating a contrast with the surrounding, more rounded rocks. This distinctive shape highlights the powerful geological processes at work and adds to the Fallen Rock’s visual intrigue.
So the aerial perspective of Beartooth Pass I shared yesterday was certainly appreciated, so now I share with you an aerial view of Squaretop Mountain from the Wind River range. This mountain has graced Wyoming License plates for the past 8 years. It is an iconic view in Wyoming but one that is often overlooked by travelers as the drive to Green River Lakes is a long and bumpy drive. Most tourists bypass the drive as they set their eyes on nearby GTNP instead. I personally love the first image, which was captured using the 7x optical zoom lens on my drone. The atmospheric conditions provided some cool visual elements as well. I have included the second image, which was captured from the same drone and location using the 23x digital zoom capabilities of my drone. The detail in the shot is pretty remarkable. Tim Doolin
