Did you know small lead fragments can be present in hunter-harvested deer and bear, particularly in ground meat? Often, lead particles are too small to detect by sight or feel, making removal practically impossible. Lead is also a threat to eagles that feed on the remains of hunter’s harvests. Please consider using lead free ammunition.
The NYSDEC is looking for any deer hunters to volunteer for their lead-free ammunition project called “Gut Pile Ecology” Project this deer season which is focused on the impacts of lead ammunition on New York State eagle populations. I’ve been using lead free ammunition for moose hunting for some years now, and have no complaints.
