Jack Russells and Westport, MA

Jack Russell’s to the core. The pink jumpers only makes it more obvious. LOL

I am reminded of being on the Westport Beach in Massachusetts bass fishing and seeing three running for me. I had a 10 inch bass fly hanging off my rod and they started jumping savagely for that while the owner yelled at them 100 yards away. I laughed at such a Jack Russell moment.
Westport Beach in Massachusetts, by the way, is a stunning beach that defines the New England coastline.
The pic above is the beach across the Westport River from The Knubble, Westport River. It took me quite a while to figure out that “rivers” in MA were tidal inlets. I used to go down there for the last gasp at bass fishing in November after the fish migrated south of Cape Cod.
One night the fishing was slow as usual. The light was blinking and a Cape Islander was opposite the light heading up the river. I had a
good bass on that I hooked by swimming a black plug alongside the rock behind the light. It was as iconic a moment as I ever had bass fishing. The stuff paintings are made of. In fact, I have seen paintings I was sure were of fishing at the Knubble.
Like everything now the Knubble has its own Wikipedia and Facebook entry.

The rock in the river next to the Knubble.  I saw the Russell’s across the river behind the rock. The rock always seemed to suggest a holding spot for bass when the tide was running out but it never seemed to happen. It was in the way too since there was a big hole in the river behind it that must have held bass but the rock was always a problem. I think I climbed on it a time or two at low water but it was a dangerous rock to stand on. I was next to it one year when the Aurora Borealis had a big show to the north. I was wondering if Boston was nuked. It was also where I was fishing with live eels once and a kid, about 7 or 8, started screaming at the top of his lungs to get over the wind. He was yelling at his father, “He is throwing a snake, Dad! He is throwing a snake!”  I laughed. I must have made his day.
