Evening drive in Punda Maria on November 1, 2024. All guests were full of hope to see the Pennant-winged Nightjar. At around 6 pm, our driver and guide Eric reached the spot where it had been seen the day before. It was 18:12 when suddenly this beautiful bird flew over us. A fantastic experience. From a photographic point of view, it was a big challenge to get sharp pictures in the low light conditions.Nikon Z9, 70-200mm 2.8, s 1/1250 to 1/1600, ISO between 1000 and 16000, processed with Photoshop’s AI noise reduction. My first thought was an AI fake but it is real. I can’t believe it is not known worldwide like the Birds of Paradise. Those feathers must hinder flight.
Other nightjars are amazing, too.
