We are currently witnessing a significant number of red shoulder hawks arriving at our facility in an unconscious state. Approximately 30% of the red shoulder hawks we admit are unconscious, as is the case with this individual. This bird does not have bird flu. Symptoms are not consistent with HPAI. Sadly, we are only able to save around 35% of these birds. It is suspected that prolonged exposure to rodenticides is the underlying cause. We urge everyone to take action and eliminate rat poison from our environment. Furthermore, we advocate for the prohibition of its sale. Our gratitude goes to Marie Bryner, our new volunteer, for rescuing the hawk in Haines City last night, and to Schulyer Long for providing secondary transport. Raptor Center of Tampa Bay
