A Great Grouse Pic

Source

Ruffed Grouse taken with my R7 and 200-800 mm. I read a lot of people knocking this combo. I love it! This photo was taken in a forest, with sun light filtering through. The in body stabilization as well as the lens stabilization was awesome. The detail is amazing. I love the sun glare in the eye.

I sat for a while with this ruffed grouse, taking in the moment. In winter, they’re incredibly hard to photograph, blending seamlessly into the landscape. Every step off the beaten path, I sink deep into the snow, making it even more challenging.
Today, a flock of around 20 surrounded me. Instead of chasing the perfect shot, I just sat still, enjoying the warmth of the sun. This one let me capture its intricate details—the sharp textures, the piercing gaze, and that beautiful sun glare in its eye.
Nature rewards patience.

He called it a roughed grouse until he was corrected. Ruffed Grouse get dissed a lot.
I heard one drumming on March 15 and I had one a foot in front of the car I almost killed.
