We’ve been trying to incorporate more natural behaviors into our animal programs, and for ratsnakes like Allegheny, one common behavior is climbing. This maple tree is a giant. This old black snake is between 7.5 and 8.5 feet, a beautiful beast. I catch this snake in our chicken coop a few times each year. Likes its eggs but that’s okay, fair trade for its protection. It always goes into the top of this tree where there’s a hollow.
