I saw the April 2025 Gray’s Sporting Journal, last night. It was Steve’s old book review gig some 30+ years ago.
Fifty years. It is an honor and privilege to say I’ve spent the past 30 years here at Gray’s Sporting Journal, and this afternoon we sent the 50th Anniversary Edition to the printer. I hope you enjoy reading it as much as Ed & Rebecca Gray, Billy Morris, David Foster, Terry Wieland, Jim Babb, Wayne Knight, Ted Williams, John Hewitt, David Petzal, John Barsness, Roger Pinckney, Steve Walburn, John Gierach, Vic Miller, Dave Zoby, Richard Chiappone, Don Thomas, Pete Fromm, Val Atkinson, Chet Reneson, Rod Crossman, Barry & Cathy Beck, Brian Grossenbacher, Dusan Smetana, Denver Bryan, Dale Spartus, Will Ryan, Chris Camuto, Scott Sadil, Miles Nolte, Brooke Chilvers, Nick Trehearne, Russ Lumpkin, Steve Bodio, Ron Rau, and countless other contributors have enjoyed sharing their stories, artwork and photographs with you over the course of the past five decades. Raise a glass to the world’s finest outdoor publication. Gray’s Sporting Journal April 3,2025
Gray’s turns 50 with the next issue. It is a good magazine. I always skim it for art as you see stuff there you do not see elsewhere. Reneson usually had an ad or a feature piece that was a good draw. Reneson did the cover above.
I have a bunch of issues I got 2nd hand before the web came in. I don’t think I used them much or at all. I would like to get rid of them but I don’t think there is much of a market. Everybody saved them and had them pile up then saw a flooded market when they went to pass them on.
E-Bay used to be loaded with them. I haven’t followed auction sites for years.
I just read yesterday that Ebay has been supplanted by Facebook Marketplace. I looked at it for the first time ever just now and didn’t see much for Gray’s.
Yikes, 15 bucks an issue here.
