I was on a beach in Massachusetts at night with an 11 foot carbon rod once with lightning in the distance. I thought I was ok but storms travel 25 miles an hour and before I knew it I was pinned. I was too far from shelter and the best I could do was flatten out on the beach. It was a very uncomfortable experience. It was 3am and there was not a soul around despite lots of houses. I did some evaluation of my life choices and realized I was an outlier. It was a lonely feeling.
