A book on hawking quail with goshawks?

If I wrote a book on hawking quail with goshawks:
1. Would you buy it?
2. Would you read it?
3. What parts would you want it to focus on?
The plan is to create something bigger than just my experiences. I want 5 to 6 friends who have flown goshawks on quail behind real bird dogs and with real success to contribute their own sections and perspectives.
I’m outlining chapters on how different dog breeds help shape a hawk’s success, along with dedicated sections covering each of the six species of hawkable American quail.
I’m also planning a full Spanish translation and contributions from falconers in Mexico because this style of hawking deserves a broader voice than just the United States.
There will be chapters on husbandry and early training for aerial success, especially for people working hawks over dogs. I also want to include a section on practical field medicine for dogs, focusing on the things you actually deal with in quail country rather than theory.
The book will be filled with high quality photos and will give real homage to the original quail hawkers who walked so the rest of us today could run.
It has been a goal for many years and I think I’m finally ready to put pen to paper.
It’ll be strictly goshawks. Tyler Sladen
I never heard of him but maybe Steve has.

I wonder if Steve is on the list.

  1. If anyone could write such a book, Tyler would be the one to do it, and it would be a good one. He writes well and is a photographer of some renown. He has a lot of experience hawking quail over dogs and knows his country well. I think such a book would sell.
Good luck to you, Tyler, on this endeavor.
