Winter (and nature in general) can often feel cruel, especially with some species that one might have a particular affinity towards.While I have seen our falcons catch birds on the wing before, having this play out right in front of me was admittedly difficult to watch. Both members of our local pair attempted a few times to catch this injured bird, until the more experienced male finally grabbed him and thankfully ended things quickly. I’ll spare the more gruesome images, but nonetheless wanted to share a few of this amazing yet raw encounter.
(And interestingly, for a predator that is incredibly adept at catching birds in flight, they definitely struggled with a bird sitting on pavement)
Good pix but the comments are a lesson in the times. All kinds of squabbles over whether it is AI or not.
It sort of sucks that no one trusts pictures or video anymore.
