Gully Gusher

I saw this as clickbait on the YouTube home page and immediately assumed it was about the ice dam lakes around Missoula. I didn’t clue in until the narration said Lake Bonneville. That caught me off guard since while I knew of Lake Bonneville I never heard it drained like this. This is dramatic to say the least. The Columbia Basin has really been hosed, pun intended, by these ancient floods.

Lake Agassiz is another Titan of a glacial lake that may of drained enough cold water to reset climate for a short period.

  1. There’s a place near us, around the Snake-Clearwater confluence, where you can see overlapping deposits from both Bonneville and Lake Missoula floods in one road cut (the Lake Missoula waters in this area were moving upstream). It’s pretty amazing to study a geomorphology story whose scope stretches from western Oregon to west-central Utah to the Flathead country!
