Oaks New Mexico 2017

Quercus gambelii – Horse Spring Road

Oaks New Mexico 2017

The first Gambel oak and the Horse Spring Road photo are likely on my friend John Davila’s* ranch.

Per Steve via email 2018.

New Oak Champions in New Mexico 2018

In light of the recent rediscovery of the extinct Quercus tardifolia** featured in a prior post I thought I would add some other oak news that was from Steve’s backyard, a few years ago.

Marion Renault has a good update on the tardifolia find.

*Davila was mentioned in Querencia

**Look here for great pix of the tardifolia find and area.

As a bonus pic, a pleasing Eyvind Earle.

  1. Right south of Jonn Davila’s two mountains.

TWO mountains, mind you. I think of Nigel Nicholson, a good nature writer whose grandmother was Vita Sackville- West. ANYONE can inherit an island; on his assuming his majority, his father gave Nigel an ARCHIPELAGO, complete with rare birds and human inhabitants.
