Group of Seven and clones

This image of Castle Mountain in Banff pulls me back to when I climbed part of it in my 20’s.It was about my only boots on the ground experience with a real mountain. The artist is channeling the Group of Seven style which is iconic in Canada.

This Mount Rundle image is nice also. Mt Rundle is one of the most well known mountains in Canada. It looms over the Trans Canada Highway and Banff. Artists have painted it countless times over the last 100 years.

Tom Thomson – Moonlight Sail, 1913-14. Oil on cardboard, 52.9 x 77.1 cm. National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, Canada

Thomson had the good fortune to die mysteriously

He is, or was, famous in Canada. He is associated with the group of seven. A big deal here but I don’t know much about him. I like this moon scene a lot though.

I was surprised to find out Steve Martin, the comedian, was a big fan and collector of Lauren Harris, a group of seven artist.  He discusses it here. The audio interview is good.
