Russell’s animals are prevalent all through his entire artistic career. Horses are Number One, then dogs, but he also did every other kind of wildlife and birds as well. As a serious fan of wildlife art, I regard this 1913 deer painting as one of the greatest wildlife paintings ever done, by any artist, at any time in history. It’s truly fantastic. I don’t know where it can be seen today, but I’d sure like to see it up close.
