Hash was a damn nice looker. I used to think he was exceptional, but all goshawks can be like him with the same amount of work, dogs, and effort. He was a great bird, but I don’t think he’s one of a kind. He was for me for awhile. but we change.
This is my favorite image I took of himHe caught shy of 700 head of game across 3 seasons, spanning 10 species of upland birds, over a dozen states.Jimmy Dean caught half as much almost as in his first year. However, it required way fewer reflushes, and caught way more in the air, exponentially.Part of that is the bird, part of that was slip selection. There are lots of fields closer to my house that quail fly differently in, they have way more access to holes, and cacti to bail into, ensuing a reflush shit show that can result in some piss poor quality flights.Get out into more wild places with more rock, less holes, better flights. Voila.
Last season I really just focused on quality slips and flights. I want covey rise catches in the air, I don’t wanna have to go guerilla warfare on quail. It wastes time and robs of your time spent watching mid-air dog fights. Tyler Sladen
Steve may know of this hawker.
It looks like he has followed a similar path as Steve.
