A stupendous sea run brown many confused with a salmon. I lost the source info but the poster said this was a Polish fish from last spring. The lack of spotting and the unreal condition factor make this an unusual sea run brown. About 11 lbs, I think, he said.
Another example I caught last month. I lost one twice as big to stupidity. At least, I saw it.
Took a break from the Rio Grande Cutts and made a much needed visit to some of my favorite Colorado River Cutts instead! This old fella stole the show for sure. Brighton Cleaver
Well I was blessed yesterday with a series of events that let me get out for an unplanned fish. Fishing was slow and there was a massive caddis hatch underway but fish were rising all over the river. I managed 3 brookies all were trophy fish by anyone’s standards but it was my last fish that was special – I was streamer fishing but switched to a dry fly presentation (not normal for me) and cast a huge #2 stimulator to a couple of rising fish – the fly barely settled and there was a huge fish roll on it and the fight was on – heavy current helped the fish take me into my backing several times – cool thing was when I did see this huge brookie there was a second large brookie following him around as he fought. I was fishing solo and never saw another angler/boat – landed what turned out to be the largest brookie of the year so far and tied for my PB in weight length girth – Special fish released of course. THE GIANT SEA TROUT OF PETITE-CASCAPEDIA
I was on the river around this time. I saw a trout like it in bright sun but it saw me as well and drifted back under a log jam. It flashes randomly in my mind more than I like to admit. Some things you can’t forget.
