The Singing Ringing Tree is a wind-powered sculpture that looks like a tree. It stands on a hill near Burnley, Lancashire, England, and was finished in 2006. This sculpture is part of a project to create new landmarks across East Lancashire.
Designed by architects Mike Tonkin and Anna Liu, the Singing Ringing Tree is 3 meters (10 feet) tall and made of steel pipes. When the wind blows through the pipes, it creates an unusual, haunting sound. Some pipes are just for looks, while others are tuned to make music.
In 2007, this sculpture won an award for its excellent design. In 2017, another Singing Ringing Tree was built near Austin, Texas, USA, and there’s also a third one somewhere in Saudi Arabia
Apparently, there are quite a few of these worldwide. Reviews were mixed. A giant noisy pain to some.
