Woodward’s are superior guns. Datus Proper used one and had a good story about it in his Pheasants of the Mind book. Steve mentioned it and repeated the story in his book on books. An old Portugal gunsmith swept aside fancy Italian guns in front of their owners and stared with devotion at Proper’s Woodward exclaiming, “Now this is a gun!” I sometimes wonder what happened to his Woodward after he drowned 20 years ago. I seem to remember someone well known got it.
