Where the Crawdads Sing Author Wanted for Questioning in Murder
Ouch!
Nothing takes the joy away of selling 12 million copies of your novel like it implicating you in a murder. At least, she will be able to afford a lawyer.
I had considered reading it with all the hype and success around it but backed off when l saw some reviews that said it was a fantasy full of holes. I hoped that the nature writing end of it would be worth it but it was supposed to be hokey, too. Was l wrong? 260,000 5 star reviews on the river site gives me pause.
On a side note, I worked with a guy who thought The Beverly Hillbillies was the funniest thing in the world. The running crawdad gag he thought was especially hilarious. When I told him that crawdads were real and just crayfish, not fiction, he thought I was trying to get one over on him.
July 15, 2022 update
I didn’t realize the movie was already out. The critics hate it. It is only pulling 34% positive on Rotten Tomatoes.
It will still make big money since there are so many fans of the book but it is too bad it is a bad movie. I have to wonder what the giant appeal of it is. It has 2 million ratings on Goodreads. People like it for some reason.
