Every year or so I rediscover this video. I don’t remember when I first saw it but it made an impression. The song with the imagery hit something in me. I tried to find out where the canyon is, but didn’t have any luck. It looks like the Nahanni in NWT, close to where the movie was filmed, but it may be another canyon.
The song doesn’t rank high on Cohen list of his best but its haunting words and feel gets me when I play it after a long rest. There isn’t much online about the song but this sophomoric over wrought bit is amusing.
I just dug through old emails and Steve mentioned this one as his favorite Cohen song. It is a great one, too. Great lyrics. After it finished, Youtube autoplayed, By The Rivers Dark, as I was typing elsewhere. It caught me by surprise. The open notes stopped me in my tracks. Good stuff.
