Corbett

MAN-EATERS: Champawat Tiger

A friend sent this video link, a week ago. I asked him if he knew of Corbett and his books. He didn’t so it prompted me to dig out a copy I had of

to let him read. I hadn’t looked at it in 20 years so I started reading it out of curiosity and it wasn’t long before I read it all again.

Jim Corbett

From there, it was down the web rabbit hole looking for new info. I was surprised there was a new book,  Hero of Kumaon: The Life of Jim Corbett, on him. I am not sure what is new in that but Corbett continues to be remembered in a big way it seems.

The cover of the book shows the famous nightjar egg incident with the Chowgarh Tiger. The drawing is by the superb illustrator, Raymond Sheppard, who did great work for his books.

After finishing the Chowgarh story, I had a nagging memory of confusion about Steve’s description of it in his Book of Books. His example was a composite of the Chowgarh Tiger and Mohan Tiger stories which was the confusing bit. No biggie, compared to my mistakes, but worth noting for clarity’s sake.

I hope to write more impressions of Corbett later but time is short. I get a few minutes a day for this.
